I think so.
It is our nation, we have to make a better nation for ourselves and the future generation.
Africa is a continent very rich in natural resources with a considerable presence of diamond, silver, gold, uranium, cobalt, wood, copper, aluminium, and large oil reserves and yet in Africa there is so much inequity, crime, violence, poverty, hunger, and agony. Vast number of people are so wretched that they live in environments and conditions that are so poor, dirty and discouraging thereby people suffer from a lot of illness like malaria, typhoid, cholera, dysentery, etc. Basic needs are lacked. No food or good food to eat which result to malnutrition especially children. A lot of children suffer from kwashiorkor, scurvy, etc. No good shelter,no good hospitals, people get so sick and die, death toll at it’s peak. Youths are challenged and confronted by unemployment which has become a great challenge to national security. Once a mind is idle, it looks for what to do to survive especially a hungry mind. This way crime, violence, inequality gets into the society. Man becomes wolf to man, peace is impeded. The rich wants to get richer, no matter what the do not mind how they go about it. Inequality everywhere. The government thinks of themselves alone. The poor are ignored. Can’t something be done to right the wrong?
A way forward must be created to promote world peace, eradicate poverty, inequality, unemployment, political instability. Social fairness, justice, unity, cooperation must be upheld to built a better Africa. Economic and political mobility must be ensured. But how?
The youths!. Believe it or not, youths are the foundation, backbone, and building blocks to build a better nation. The make up the positive image of any society. With the talents, energies, inventiveness, and labor power of the youths, a nation makes progress in economic development. Youth signifies energy, potency, optimism, enthusiasm, courage, transformative force, progressive reasoning, quality imagination and FUTURE! therefore the prosperity and strength of a nation all depends on how strong it’s youths are because the stronger the youths, the more gigantic the strides in the development of a nation. For instance the president of south Korea who is a youth. With his energy and talent as a strong youth he has been able to make great positive changes in his country. Imagine the weight he is pulling presently in USA. You don’t know your potential until you make a step, he made a step, conquered and he is taking gigantic strides. Patriotism, his love for his country. Africans have to be patriotic, we must try as much as we can to love our nation for things to move forward.
African youths have a lot of potentials but little or no support is given to them by the government. Their voices are not heard, there is lack of facilities to develop their talents, ignorance on the youths. The youths need to be listened to and productively engaged, their ability should be utilized to better the nation. Take for example china, train their youths, the develop young people with skills and talents, they support their youths, they are patriotic and that is why they are at a great height now. That is why China was able to lift up about 700million people out of poverty. One can imagine how amazing that is. Kudos to their government for choosing Patriotism over corruption and greed. If such is done in Africa wonders how great and successful Africa will be. Giant of the world. It is left for the youths to determine whether this world moves towards greater heights and positive changes. The government should support the young people so the can grow not eld into adults and be a true platform for more powerful leaders for the future generations.
Opportunities must be created for the young people to express themselves. In Nigeria the youths almost do not have a voice in the scheme of things. Unemployment, lack of opportunities, faulty educational system, repressive political system, diminishing economic fortune etc. are mostly responsible for the suppression of the voices of the youths. Nigerian youths or rather African youths need to be more focused, creative and morally disciplined if they are to actually become real doers to development and progress in the nation. Youths have to be virtuous, morally educated and strong enough to stand against corruption and every obstacles that may block the pathway to success.
To enhance the youths and make them contribute meaningfully to nation building is a duty for all, the government, parents and youths themselves through the following ways:
Quality education at all levels: youths must be educated at all levels for the nation to develop. Quality education helps to build and widen that talent, energy, optimism, enthusiasm, courage, transformative force, quality imagination and reasoning in the youths. It explodes the fire in the youths making them see and build the future in their very own minds. The last thing they need is someone shattering their dreams. They should be guided to achieve their dreams because it’s gonna be great. Engaging the young ones in essays, quiz competitions, debates, brain teasing tests, etc. In their various schools enables them acquire more knowledge and prepares themfor the future. Most families find it very difficult to train their children up to university level due to lack of finance and poverty therefore the government should help these families by free education at higher institution level or through scholarships. The government can also organize scholarships to study in other countries.
Provision of jobs and employment opportunities is also a way to properly help channel the energies and talents of the youths towards nation building. Welfare and economic development is achieved. High rate of idle minds is abolished.
Patriotism which leads to peace, sanity, orderliness and progression in a country should be the number one passion of every youth and government. For instance China, south Korea, Dubai, USA and other developed countries. China was a poor but through hardworking it was able to make a name for itself and now it has become so wealthy that it can provide for it’s citizens and it’s friendly neighborhood Dubai seeing how backward their county was and trusting it’s youths sent them to different developed countries to learn all fields of life and develop their talents. After being trained and loaded with skills and knowledge came back to their country as patriotic citizens of their nation, released their energy and talents into their homeland making it what Dubai is now. An amazing place it is. The miracle of Patriotism! The government of each African countries should also try as much as they can to trust, be patriotic and send their youths to developed countries to develop their skills and help in building Africa.
All forms of exploitations by individuals and groups must be resisted for in this the youths take away their voices and rights thereby taking themselves out of the big picture. They must stop letting themselves being used as touts and objects of riots, and mischiefs during political activities. Youths must seek to participate positively in government politics and policy formation. They must participate in all issues of national interest, this way their voices will be heard and their views considered.
The world need food which is why it is necessary to keep encouraging Agriculture in Africa as Africa needs a road map for sustainable food security. Agriculture remains one of the major component of the nation’s economy. With agriculture, poverty and unemployment will be eradicated because food production requires massive number of people thereby job opportunities for at least 80 percent of the active population. Provision of tools, machines and equipments should be made available to encourage agriculture because a lot of people especially in African prefer white collar job to farming because a lot of people think enormous stress and great dedication is involved in it but the do not know that most white collar jobs involve a lot of dedication and stress. You don’t have time for yourself but agriculture especially ones owned in homes are the best mostly when machines, tools, and equipments are made available. For instance, crops just have to be given the necessary attention and care you can render, nature takes care of the rest but nature can never take care of the files in the office. People should also know that aside crop farming, agriculture is also made up of so many other area such as fishery farming, snailry, livestock farming which involves pigs, goats, horses, cow (where milking takes place, people involved in it make a lot of money), sheep ( people Involved here make money through wools produced by sheep), rabbits, etc, poultry farming involving chicken, Guinea fowl, etc. There are also farmers who focus on grooming and growing flowers. So agriculture goes a wide way creating opportunity for all. If one is not good in option A, he/she may be perfect in option E. It is versatile. Agriculture is a jack of all trades, therefore it shall not and can never be abandoned.
Youth enlightenment and seminars: Through seminars and lecture organized by Non government organizations(NGOs) and government organizations, the youths will be able to know their rights and be able to speak up without fear wherever the find themselves. They will be able to conquer a lot of negativity thereby taking great steps towards positivity.
The government of each African countries should also aim at infrastructure development-building of good roads and railways will help in reducing the cost of food items hence bad roads during transportation of food items is responsible for the increased prices of food stuffs. Buildings of good hospitals and free medical treatments especially for the less privileged will help decrease the high rate of mortality and sick people in Africa. Good water supplies, construction of dams to provide electricity, building of companies and industries which will attract investors from all parts of the world, provide job opportunities for the youths and help in achieving the dream of a strong nation.
Equity: Justice must prevail for a nation to move forward. Nobody is and should be above the law. Anyone who fails to abide by the law even the government themselves should face the hammer of the court and justice. This way bribery and corruption will be controlled. The political system and the nation will move forward. Youth develop political apathy because of the level of bribery and corruption, injustice and lawlessness in the political system in their countries.
Youth empowerment programs and skill acquisition trainings: skill acquisition trainings should also help in developing the talents of the young ones. But in as much as a large number of empowerment, and skill acquisition trainings are being carried out in Africa yet it has not been able to cover up the high rate unemployment. Reason is because it is not only about empowering the youths and skill acquisition trainings, enough capitals should also be provided through the government or banks or indivuduals either by loan or by charity to the youths to enable them start up a business of their own. There are support groups helping people but they are not enough. The government, wealthy patriotic individuals, companies etc. who are capable should help out. It is our nation, we have to make a better nation for ourselves and the future generation.
Forces must be joined to achieve greatness. With the help of developed countries like china in infrastructure development and human resources development in Africa, there will be great positive changes. It is high time the young generation stopped seeing themselves as too young. We all have something to offer this great continent, Africa. Let everyone sit up, it is our nation, we can’t just sit down and fold our arms. Let us grab our hoes and shovels because we all have to toil, dig and sweat until our nation reaches the peak of greatness. China, Dubai, USA and other developed countries never rested until they attained greatness. We shall not give up. Let the youths be the leaders as have always been tagged. The future is now, it begins with you and me.
